Rosin, also known as resin, is a fascinating solid resin sourced primarily from pine trees gracing the landscapes of Asia, Europe, and North America. In a labor of love, long strips are carved into trees to encourage the flow of resin, which is then carefully collected. Through the magic of steam heating, volatile terpenes and turpentine are removed, leaving behind the semi-transparent marvel of rosin. Its hues range from sunny yellows to mystic blacks, composed of a symphony of organic acids, with abietic acid (C19H29COOH) taking center stage. With a gentle rosin aroma, it may melt at varying temperatures, some being fluid at boiling water's heat, while others can melt between 100°C and 120°C.
