Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid (LABSA)

 

Sulfonic acid is a kind of organic compound formed by connecting alkyl carbon chain with sulfonic acid group - (SO32-). They are obtained through a substitution reaction called sulfonation, in which hydrocarbons react with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) or sulfur trioxide (SO3) or chloro-sulfuric acid (ClSO3H), resulting in the hydrogen in the carbon chain being replaced by sulfonic acid roots. However, the term "sulfonic acid" is commonly used in the chemical industry to name straight-chain alkyl benzene sulfonic acid, which typically has alkyl chains containing 10 to 14 carbons. They are a wide range of molecules that contain a non-polar chain (often called the tail) and another polarized region (called the head), which has an affinity for oils and fats. It is an anionic surfactant, that is, its polar groups are negatively charged in nature. Anionic surfactants have the characteristics of strong detergency, good water solubility, strong foam formation and good cleaning performance. Among them, sulfonic acid stands out, it is one of the main raw materials used in the cleaning industry, and its formulations are diverse, such as various detergents, general cleaners, oil removers and multi-purpose products.
